How to Make Money from Blogging: Part 3
In this, the third part of three articles covering how you can make money from blogging looks at more ways to make it happen in your own little corner of the Internet at large.
Well, after the last two instalments if this mini series, as its turned out to be, it's time to get on with the next one already. As I mentioned in the last post, we need to look at the process of getting links to your blog if you want to stand any realistic chance of ranking well in the SERPs for your chosen keywords. So how do you go about doing that?
Search Engine Optimization and Hyperlinks
Well, there are several ways of getting links pointing to your blog and some of these have been tried and tested for a few years, found to work well and still work well today. They take some work on your behalf and getting lots of them can be a lot of work. But before I get into them, I want to point one thing out.
Automation is a very attractive means of getting links and there are several pretty good software packages out there that can do that. The only problem with them in the main is that they will only get you very low quality links.
With that said, if you can get a thousand crap links, it's better than nothing and will help your blog rank in some uncompetitive long tail keyword niches, so there are benefits. There is another big problem is that if you get too many links too fast, Google will know what you're doing and may impose a penalty on your site, which can be a ranking slap that could prove costly if your site is already making some money. So be careful!
Automating Some of the Work
Personally, I don't use automation to get links as I prefer to get them as naturally as possible and I like my links to come from places that already have some trust with the search engines. That's a lot more work, but in the long run it is worth it as a handful of authority links will help a site outrank one that has thousands of crap links. So here's the deal as to manual link getting.
Write original articles and post them to places like ezine articles, hub pages and infobarrel. These are more than article directories and carry some SERPs authority, so links from your articles posted at these places will have more authority right off the bat.
Next, do some do-follow blog commenting. While these are considered crappy links, they are good for linking to the articles you just posted to the aforementioned sites to boost their authority further...
A Network of Support Sites
Build some support sites using free blogging platforms like blogger, wordpress, blinkweb, blogetery etc. You should write decent posts in these and link out sparingly to your main site from in-post links anchored to your keywords. Then link to these posts from do-follow blogs comments to get them some authority.
Post in forums related to your niche. Most forums will let you place a link to your site in your sig and you can also place a link in your profile. Guess what? Link to your profile from do-follow blog comments!
Sign up for authority web 2.0 sites and place a link in your profile and then link to that profile from, yep you guessed it... do-follow blog comments! While you're at it, you can use the social sites to submit your site to for more crappy links – they all count! You can use a free tool called onlywire.com to submit your blog posts to a collection of social sites all from a single submission.
Ok, that should be enough to get you going. Don't work too hard, or should I say DO work too hard!
